WELCOME

Thank you to everyone who came out to the Fort Smith Classic, Arkansas’ only PGA TOUR event, May 5-11, 2008 at the picturesque Hardscrabble Country Club in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

In its eleventh year, the Fort Smith Classic shines brightly as one of the best stops on the Nationwide Tour.

Proceeds of all events benefit the Beth Koprovic Memorial Charities to improve the lives of area children: The Children’s Emergency Shelter, Children’s Service League, Fort Smith Boys & Girls Clubs, Girls Incorporated and The First Tee of Fort Smith.

Colt Knost Makes Champion Dreams Come True at the Fort Smith Classic

Twenty-two year old reigning U.S. Amateur champion Colt Knost fired a 5-under-par 65 Sunday and erased a six-stroke deficit to win the Fort Smith Classic. The win is his first professional victory.

Darron Stiles led for most of the afternoon, but let the lead slip away with a bogey on 13 and double bogey on 14. Stiles rolled in an 18-foot birdie at 16 to temporarily tie for the lead, but the 2006 tournament champion then bogeyed 17 to fall one back. The silver lining for Stiles is that his second-place winnings put him at the top of the 2008 Nationwide Tour money list.

David Lutterus and Daniel Sumerhays finished the week at 9-under while Ricky Barnes, Matt Weibring and former Razorback golfer Rich Morris finished at 8-under.

KAIA LARSEN • TIMES RECORD Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder perform live during a free concert Tuesday for Rockin’ Greens and Bluegrass at the Donald W. Reynolds Stage at Harry E. Kelley Park.

Despite rain earlier in the day, more than 6,000 people gathered along the banks of the Arkansas River for the Cox Community Concert. Thirteen-time Grammy Award winner Ricky Skaggs and his band, Kentucky Thunder, amazed the crowd with two hours of hits, true bluegrass classics and new music. The concert was produced in partnership with Cox, the Fort Smith Classic and the city of Fort Smith.
